Lord Mandelson’s Proposed Net Rules Evoke Protest from Police and Intelligence Services

November 18th, 2009

The police and the national intelligence agencies of the UK, including the MI5 and MI6, have registered their disapproval of the anti-piracy regulations proposed by Lord Mandelson, under which any suspected internet piracy will be dealt with immediate disconnection of broadband. These regulations will soon be law if lawmakers accept them when the next Digital Economy Bill is presented.

Business Secretary Lord Mandelson had pledged to introduce these new rules in response to the call for stringent measures to tackle illegal downloads and file sharing, which are eating heavily into the profits of the music and movie industry.

However, these regulations have received much criticism from various quarters. Consumer right groups have been unhappy with the invasion of privacy that such monitoring will involve. Users have made their feelings felt with a recent YouGov poll in which nearly 70 percent say that suspects should be given a fair trail in court before their broadband is disconnected.

Internet service providers like BT and Carphone Warehouse are also strongly opposed to the new rules. They have pointed out that technical mechanisms for monitoring online use will be an expensive affair, with broadband providers having no choice but to pass on the costs to customers, which would increase the monthly broadband bills by nearly 2 pounds.

The MI5 and MI6 have now joined a long list of those who oppose the rules. These national security services claim that it will be very expensive and time consuming to monitor accounts to see if any illegal activity is taking place. Tech savvy offenders will turn to high-end encryption methods to escape detection, thus making more investment of time and money necessary from the law enforcement agencies to identify and punish offenders.

Rick Astley Image Eats up Jailbroken iPhones in Australia

November 10th, 2009

A number of owners of Jailbroken Apple iPhones in Australia have reportedly complained of a worm that’s been invading their units, thereby affecting the dedicated servers embedded in the system. According to reports, an image of eighties pop icon Rick Astley has been seen replacing the wallpapers in the phone.

The incidents have been shared online although there haven’t been official developments stated in relation to this matter.

The hacker, identified as 21-year old Ashley Towns, claimed responsibility in this incident. Using an online username “ikex,” Towns claimed that more than a hundred iPhones have been infected with the malware. With the capability to share files using the units, there’s a big possibility that the numbers of phones infected with the virus will rise since unsuspecting users will no doubt continue sharing files, photos and others.

SophosLabs is currently analyzing the virus code. Programmers discovered that it has the capability of hiding its presence through a file path similar to Cydia jailbreaking tool.

Users who weren’t able to change the default password after installing Secure Shell (SSH) are vulnerable to the hack. The best thing to do is to change the root password first before doing any installation.

This development has garnered interest because according to Sophos Senior Security officer for Relevant Products and Services Graham Cluley, this is the first worm to ever spread between iPhone units. He stressed that this is a dangerous form of malware and there’s more than just an image of Rick Astley in terms of its effects.

A Rant Concerning Treatment Cabinets

November 5th, 2009

To succeed as an opthalmologist, knowledge and experience are only half the battle. The optometric equipment you select to use is very important as well as these will determine how well you work. When shopping for your required instruments, you must opt to buy new, used, remanufactured or refurbished instruments. Tonometers, examination chairs, instrument delivery systems: these and others should be considered separately to get hold of the best for your needs.

Useful for many a diagnosis, tonometers are available in various forms to fit the requirements of each individual optometrist. If you want to ensure maximum accuracy you need to select only tonometers of highest quality and those which grant ease of use, thus generating a sizeable acceleration of the diagnosis — which will be of help to both patients and practice.

The frustration generated by a chair which won’t hold a patient where you need them is the stuff of legends. Comfort as much as utility should consequently be taken into consideration when you go about choosing the exam stools that you want. Look for fully adjustable exam chairs which can raise or lower even the smallest patient until they are at the appropriate height. The exam chair you choose needs to also bear the patient and make her appointment as comfortable as as can be. This will be especially essential for longer and in-depth visits. Your optometric equipment should be stored away somewhere, and preferably in a place offering easy access when wanted. Generally this involves a group of treatment cabinets that provides certain important characteristics; secure locks, leveling glides for use on unsteady floors, and other obvious points. These cabinets can swiftly be transported to whatever part of your practice most requires what they hold and to store whatever else you’ll discover you need. Make sure to buy a cabinet that will not be too bulky for graceful maneuvering.

Treatment cabinets, exam chairs, and tonometers are just three of the pieces of optometric equipment which can affect how well you can do your job and to what level of efficiency. Determine your precise needs (hint: why not make a list?) before beginning ordering equipment. Shoddy gear will be certain to handicap the work flow; but the easier to use and the more accurate your tools, the more efficient you should perform in your practice. The efficiency that the right selections can upgrade your practice with will probably overwhelm you…

Visit and visit this brilliant website for exam room light info.

As a result, the equipment you order will have considerable influence on how you perform in your job as a whole, and, quite as importantly, the survival of the practice.

50p Broadband Tax Insufficient, Says BT

July 10th, 2009

The government’s proposed 50 p broadband tax has created doubts in the minds of BT, which feels that the target of providing fibre optic broadband service across the UK with the said fund would be not feasible.

In a meeting at the company headquarters in London, Olivia Garfield, the Director of Strategy and Portfolio, said that she was doubtful regarding the progress of this broadband UK plan with the proposed fund. She said that the maximum that the government can hope to achieve from the fund was about 80 to 85 percent coverage instead of the targeted 100%. She urged the government to adopt a more realistic approach towards the issue.

During the press conference, Garfield also disclosed that BT was not a part of the decision process to impose the broadband tax and was unaware of it till about twenty minutes before the launch of the Digital Britain Report.

BT has now resorted to Ofcom to provide it with a clear picture of the allocation of the Next Generation Funds amongst companies like BT and Virgin Media for the project and they expressed dissatisfaction over the unavailability of information. The Parliament has also initiated an inquiry into the viability of the Next Generation Fund and about the practical aspects of the recommendations put forward by the Digital Britain Report.

Analysts Confirm Mobile Broadband will be the Communication Technology of the Future

April 30th, 2009

According to a report, titled “European Mobile Broadband Melee between 3G LTE and Mobile WiMAX”, published by analyst firm Frost and Sullivan, mobile broadband technologies will overtake fixed line broadband over the next 3-4 years.

The report talks about the revolution that 3G LTE and Mobile WiMAX will bring along with them in the field of telecommunications. It predicts that the number of subscribers of 3G LTE is likely to cross the 22 million mark by 2013. It also reveals that people are already downloading 6-14 times more data than they used to download the previous year through mobile broadband, and an average user is now downloading data of 5GB per month.

The analysts made an interesting prediction in the report, saying that the future of mobile broadband is likely to be a kind of open access for everyone, no matter what the user’s device or home network is. The report however refrains from being biased towards either 3G LTE or WiMAX, and does not offer a comparison between the two.

Frost and Sullivan seem to echo the market sentiment when in the report they endorse a demand that the providers should change the tariff models for mobile broadband services. Programme manager for the company, Luke Thomas, says that the providers should drop the flat rate unlimited plans and come up with something more creative to attract customers and remain differentiated in the industry. He also stresses that the new pricing structures should be easy to comprehend for the end users. Unlike some of the recent free laptop offers, which although seemingly appealing may not have necessarily been clear in their long term pricing policy. If you are interested in the free laptop option, click on Mobile Broadband Genie for an informed and unbiased view of the latest offers.

The report suggests some measures to improve the service levels of mobile broadband, such as implementation of QoS policies, access prioritisation and processing based on traffic flow.

Many Brits Not Interested in Broadband Connections

March 27th, 2009

According to Ofcom, a majority of the British population does not believe in the utility of a broadband connection.

Ed Richards, CEO of Ofcom, speaking at the London School of Economics mentioned that 55% of the British population was not interested in availing the facilities of broadband in spite of being regularly reminded of its benefits such as conveniently buying insurance, catching up on missed TV shows or accessing useful information.

Mr. Richards said that it was imperative to find out why broadband was not popular amongst the British and why 40% of the population still does not possess basic internet services. He revealed that out of the half of the population that was not keen to get a broadband connection, 30 percent felt it would be an added expenditure, which they could not afford. Another 15 percent did not even have a computer through which they could access the internet. I you would like to find out more about broadband and what options are available for you , try www.broadbandgenie.co.uk, for a comparison based on factors which are important for you, such as cost and prices.

Mr. Richards stressed that it was clear that some action needs to be taken to tackle the situation as broadband brings huge advantages to people and has the potential of improving their living condition by increasing productivity and providing access to a huge amount of information. He suggested that it might be economically more viable to ensure that people get access to the basic broadband services first instead of having to wait for a new 2Mb network to be setup.

Brilliant Fridges Online

January 27th, 2009

When and if you should be searching for the most optimal price on fridges and freezers looking on-line should be a stunning tactic to make sure you conserve time and money. Don’t choose to blow your time browsing round legions of high-street stores in a quest for the finest deals - all you have to do is simply sit down at your pc and log on and a whole brand new world of fridges is waiting for you on the web. Take your time finding the right fridges as a quality one can last a very long time.

Still, with innumerable on line retailers how do you conceivably look into which store could not waste your hard earned cash on fridges while nonetheless ensuring you get a high quality machine. As a rule of thumb should you buy your new appliance from a retailer on the high-street then you should not realistically have many qualms at all about securing your fridge from their website, and as folk should all realise you will frequently happen upon significantly lower prices on-line.

Consulting a good buyers guide is always the very best place to begin when surveying the market - place for fridges - they are commonly packed with a great wealth of data and furthermore bring up issues you possibly could not have thought through all by your self. Theses important considerations include but are not limited to; power usage, further features & total capacity among further things.

Don’t choose to always go with the cheapest offer - all too often the first cost you find on a website will not include value added tax or home delivery fees furthermore, once you reach the payment point in the process you might be paying a lot more than you first thought.

What date do you need it by? Not all on-line stores offer fast delivery and if your original appliance has just broken down you conceivably might not wish to wait one weeks for your brand new one. So consistently check what the estimated home delivery date will be.

Find out the return policy - fridges are a difficult item to buy; sometimes they seem fantastic in the showroom or on a web-site but when you get it to your home you come to the realisation it doesn’t complement your home at all. Therefore, you should always be prudent.

Best Notebooks Officially Mass Market

August 23rd, 2008

As of late, gaming notebooks were normally built to order by boutique retailers. I highly doubt they shipped in any meaningful volumes but they sure made tons of money for the manufacturers. Everybody wanted this kind of laptop, but at the price point they were sold for it was simply unaffordable. I think they were never the most functional but I still think they were the best laptops. Regardless of the buzz caused I don’t believe they were great sellers because I don’t think buyers would buy laptops in place of desktops as they were not really good value. Lately it seems bigger brands are all coming into the sector really quickly and things are shifting.

In my point of view they would get off by selling them at a greater price if they wanted. This would be one of the few money producing products they have as they make nothing on numerous others due to the giant competition. Why would people buy laptops like this? I think big companies have the marketing money to educate them on that. I am wondering what the the reaction from littler retailers will be. I am already seeing some price cuts. The top notch technology will rapidly make its path into the view of the normal consumers. In my point of view if anyone’s decided to part with a lot of cash the brand name always comes out victorious.

I reckon they surely are introducing a couple of the best laptops out to purchase. In my point of view however, this is in fact a bit of hope for the local guys in retail. The custom made service is a massive benefit to the customer. Usually this kind of consumer is well versed in the tech specs and can easily compare configurations. If you are buying the notebook for gaming then certainly the speed is the first worry.

Clearly what’s happening here can do good for us in the long haul. In the end the cost will drop further and more game players would be able to purchase such advanced technology. Though I say that, I am not so assured with my claims. Prices will possibly remain consistently high as there are always new portables being released. We will discover what we can look forward to from the gaming notebook sectors big brands.

Visit http://www.rizeon.com because they are offering a few really fast laptops for the prices.

Vodafone Prepares to Open New Retail Stores

August 20th, 2008

Retail outlet stores in the UK will be expanding, according to an announcement made by Vodafone. This is a multi-million pound investment, and will be well worth the money. Plans are in place to add another 50 retail stores to the existing 350 stores. This will ensure that the demands of the customers will not only be met, but will be exceeded. The most important element is for customers to get the best service ever possible. These expansion stores should start opening on the high street, and also in shopping centers around UK. The initial grand opening will begin at Bristol Cabot Circus and White City London, sometime in September. In October, it is expected that there will be more openings at Liverpool One.

These stores will open up labour opportunities, with an initial 200 new retail jobs. This is in line with Vodafone’s announcement that they will be providing about 300 new retail positions with the launching of these new stores. It is anticipated that by spring of 2009, most of the sites would have been identified, and the necessary work to get the stores ready for business will have been completed.

It is planned that the majority of the new retail locations will be found, and work completed to turn them into stores by spring 2009. Most of these stores will follow the new design, which is the new concept that Vodafone released in 2006. The design will include self-service at the front of the store for specific products like phone covers/refills/online self-help. Added to that, the new stores will have a phone pharmacy. Here, one can receive advice on phones or broadband services.

There are other future technology investments being made by Vodafone. All these new and improved technology should make it simpler for Vodafone’s retail team to maximize the speed of service.

Why Would You Want To Use Perl Scripts?

May 12th, 2008

First let me tell you the history of Perl scripts and then I will go into why I think Perl is the best overall programming language that there is. Perl is a programming language created by Larry Wall in 1987. It is based mainly on the programming language C but also borrows features from many other languages. Many people new to this language think that it is written PERL and is an acronym but that is not the true name and is a way that “insiders” identify “outsiders” in this programming language’s world.

Perl was originally named “Pearl” after the parable of Jesus Christ in the Bible that talks about a man who found a pearl in a field and immediately went and sold all that he had in order to buy the pearl. Otherwise known as the story of “the Pearl of Great Price,” the pearl originally was a symbol for the kingdom of heaven something obviously of great value and it was this idea of great value that Larry named his language. Unfortunately Larry found that there was already a programming language named “pearl” and so he shortened the name to Perl. The original manual had a camel as the cover picture and the symbol of the camel has becomes Perl’s official symbol.

Although it is not an acronym it has become known as Perl - practical extraction and report language. This is a good description of the tasks that Perl scripts are good for that is data in the form of text that are found in lists, programs, etc. Because it is good at these things it has widely been used like glue in the programming world, that is it can be used as an interfacing language to run programs together that were not originally designed to be compatible. Its use on the popular LAMP platform for web development is an obvious application for these abilities to interface. This is a main reason why this should be of interest to you, the ultimate internet marketer. Other popular applications or in the informatics world where it can be used to manage large and complex databases.

Perl is either loved or hated. Those who hate on Perl scripts cite their ugly and “write only” format. This references the programming language’s complex use of punctuation and symbols, making its readability not the greatest and often such that you can’t go back and look at the code and easily understand what the programmer was intending. Those who love Perl talk of its ease of use and its wide range of application.

Trever Dellinious’s idea of a good time is snuggling up with his laptop next to a cozy fire on a cold winter day, and writing elegant programs in perl. To learn more about perl scripts and their application go to www.allperlscripts.info.
