A Look at Website Templates

November 4th, 2009

We purchase many items off-the-peg and don’t require them to be custom-built to fit our needs. Yet, when it comes to websites it appears to be different. Most business owners expect that their site will be produced to their rigorous stipulations. This is perfectly natural, and in a lot of cases it’s unavoidable.

But hold on - is it really the best way to go about things for all cases? Take e-commerce websites as an example : feature-rich websites, with demanding security essentials, a backoffice area so the website owner can maintain the content. All of this, while requiring the front-end to be painless to browse and buy products for website visitors. Serving all those needs is no insignificant undertaking, and if a bug or other issue occurs, you’re going back to the web designer to request support. Bespoke websites in this light have a large weight to carry.

All the same, there’s another choice to this way which is a lot more cost-effective, can give you a lot more facilities, and gives more stability, reliability and security - the website template.

People recognize these days that tailor-made website design oftentimes isn’t essential and that in numerous situations, it’s better to amend your plans even ever-so slightly so they meet a solid, proven website template than it is to take chances with a tailor-made website design to match your goals. But why is this? Because of the complexity a contemporary website asks for. You want a strong, tried and tested template that runs your site, not recently written code that hasn’t had the benefit of months and years of real-life testing. Not just that, but templates normally come with free updates, so your site is following all the cutting-edge advancements on the internet the ability to copy and paste fashionable widgets onto your pages.

Perhaps the greatest selling point is this however: website templates are far cheaper than bespoke sites. Why spend £5000 on a site when you can acquire a website with more features for just £500, as an example?

The above issues ought to make you consider carefully your plans and whether to select a web template or go for a bespoke website.

Spare A Thought For Redundant Exercise Machines

May 3rd, 2008

I have an exercise machine that I’ve used once. Did I hear you
say ‘Me too’?

Hey, I’m not proud of that, but I make this revelation with more
confidence today than I would have done yesterday.

Why?

Well, last night I was watching a TV programme about us - the
public - and our attitude to exercise.

Guess what?

I am not alone.

In fact, the presenter went down one average street here in the
UK and nearly every household had unused or nearly-new exercise
equipment. One lady had enough to equip a gym, plus work out
videos galore - BUT - all untouched and gathering dust - if not
mould - in her garage.

No wonder there are so many TV channels selling this gear - we
can’t get enough of it - but at the same time, use the exercise
bike as a clothes hanger, and dumbells as doorstops.

I’m in the wrong business!

The thing is that all this equipment does get bought with good
intent in mind - so what goes wrong?

We all have those moments - you know the ones - Right!! I’m
going to get fit. I’m going to lose weight. AND you mean it (at
the time).

Those fleeting moments usually coincide with New Year or when
hiding in an X-Large t-shirt on the beach.

Just had a thought - maybe I’ll sell exercise equipment from a
stall on the beach.

Now if you are like me, you struggle with this whole thing of
weight and exercise.

For years, I have grappled with why I can’t keep some modicum of
exercise as part of my daily routine. An even bigger dilemma is
why I can’t keep my weight down.

For goodness sake!

I know the theory and consequences of eating poorly and failing
to exercise. A large part of my adult life has been spent
nursing. Add to that the critical intimidating Health Visitor
‘once over’ that my wife gives my torso, as I derobe for
whatever.

You’d think that I had motivation enough.

The formula is simple enough:

Eat healthy diet within a daily calorie limit and exercise for
twenty minutes, 3 or 4 times a week. At least, that is what I
thought.

But no ….

There is one additional and probably much more important element
to consider.

The complete formula is:

Healthy controlled calorie eating + Exercise + CHANGE OF MINDSET.

I have had the pleasure of meeting and working with a guy called
Adam Eason, a hypnotherapist. My company built his website, and
I was gradually more curious about the wide range of physical
and mental conditions that Adam was successfully involved in.

The penny dropped one weekend, when I filmed a video of Adam
speaking at a weekend seminar about hypnosis.

I discovered that the chatterbox in our head is often our own
worst enemy. Talk about a traitor. Our own mind fed constantly
from the subconscious, with garbage which we have collected over
the years and is now holding us back.

Just think about it for a moment - think of the excuses you make
to yourself - think about the internal arguments in your head -
think of the things you think, and what you actually say.

Not worth thinking about, is it?

Hypnosis can help replace a lot of the nonsense that is coming
out of the subconscious. It takes time and a bit of effort, but
a few short weeks can replace completely a poor mindset with
basically a new programme to run our mind and thoughts.

A new healthy orientated mindset. That’s my target.

I am getting my exercise bike out for action again.

How about you?

Is there such thing as the “magic” weight loss pill?

April 18th, 2008

Is there such thing as the “magic” weight loss pill?

Modern medicine has given us a number of miracles in a bottle.
We have pills for arthritis, pills for heartburn, pills for
heart trouble. We have pills that will help us wake up in the
morning, pills that will help us digest our afternoon meal, and
pills that will enable us to sleep at night. We live in a
pill-popping society.

Because of the number of medications available, we often turn
to pills to cure what ails us–no matter what our trouble might
be. Whether it’s physical or emotional, we may believe that
medication will take care of the problem. As a result, it’s not
surprising that a number of us also turn to diet pills in an
effort to control our weight.

There are a number of advantages to using diet pills when
trying to fight fat. To begin with, diet pills are
quick-acting–we may see results after only a little bit of time
has elapsed. As a result, we may gain confidence and lose even
more weight as a result of our success with diet pills. Other
people–friends, relatives, co-workers–may notice our weight
loss and may compliment us as a result. Consequently, we may be
motivated to work even harder at our weight loss.

Diet pills are also convenient. We can keep them in our
medicine cabinet or kitchen cupboard. We can take a pill in the
morning and not have to worry about our weight for the rest of
the day. We don’t have to do a great deal of research, as is
required when we are trying to determine which diet to try. In
addition, taking a diet pill is hardly as strenuous as running
five miles or swimming ten laps.

Moreover, diet pills can help us to shift some of the
responsibility for losing weight to another entity. No longer is
it simply up to us to control our weight. We look to the pill to
resolve our weight problem, once and for all. This can help to
lower our anxiety, reducing our stress level.

But there are also serious disadvantages to using diet pills.
For instance, there is the possibility that we will become
addicted to the medication. This can take a toll on not only our
physical health, but our emotional health as well. We may become
too dependent on the pills, expecting them to solve our weight
problems.

Diet pills also teach us nothing about good nutrition. You do
not have to learn about proper diet if you are depending on a
pill to take your excess weight away. As a result, an individual
may never discover the importance of healthy eating, and his or
her overall health could suffer as a result.

In addition, there is no such thing as a quick fix when it
comes to weight loss. While you might lose weight for a time
after taking diet pills, you could quickly regain the weight,
once you go off the pills. As a result, diet pills fail to
provide a life-long approach to healthy weight maintenance.

Given the pros and cons of diet pills, you might be wondering
whether they would be right for you. Check with your family
physician. He or she is in the best position to assess your
overall health and determine whether diet pills would be
appropriate in your particular case. Secondly, consider
consulting with a nutritionist. He or she can help advise you
about whether to take diet pills.

Diet pills are a huge industry within the U.S. So, there is a
great deal of marketing, urging you to purchase these so-called
wonder drugs. But, before you buy, you have to seriously
consider whether these pills could jeopardize your health. While
it may be important for you to lose weight, it is even more
important for you to shield your body from harm.

Weight loss is not miraculous. It takes a great deal of
dedication and perseverance. Therefore, it is unlikely that you
will find the secret to weight loss in a bottle. By changing
your diet and exercising, you might notice only incremental
changes in your weight. However, over the long term, you might
be better able to maintain healthy weight loss by sticking with
the tried-and-true formula of diet and exercise.

Side Effects Of Anabolic Steroids

April 12th, 2008

Anabolic Steroids are prevalent nowadays. Many athletes use them
to increase performance. Even though it may have some good
benefits, there are side effects. These types of steroids
promote skeletal muscle growth and enhance male sexual
qualities. They are commonly used by body builders,
weightlifters and others associated with strength training. With
its ability to improve muscular performance and decrease fats in
the body, athletes have increased potential. That is why it is
illegal for athletes who are joining a certain official
competitions to use them. They can be injected or taken orally.
Dosages depend on the condition and age of the person. Here are
some of their side effects.

Some side effects are serious and some are more common. It is
said that orally taken steroids have more adverse effects. This
type affects the liver in particular. Anabolic steroids are said
to reduce the liver’s excretory purposes. The liver can be
damaged from a bleeding cystic condition which is patently
dangerous. Moreover, the use of steroids has been connected to
liver cancer, but this is still being studied.

In the cardiovascular system, anabolic steroids can cause
changes in the heart processes and strokes are possible
especially to those who are taking oral steroids. In the male
reproductive system, it is said that these can cause erectile
dysfunction and could also lead to impotence even though sexual
energy is enhanced. Atrophy or shrinking of the testicles can
also occur and is associated with very high dosages of anabolic
steroids.

Since the skin is the largest organ of the human body, it cannot
be considered safe from these adverse side effects, enlarged
skin pores, especially in women because their skin is more
sensitive than men is common. This process is also known as
“virilization” and it is an irreversible side-effect. Acne is
another problem. Intake of steroids can worsen the condition of
existing acne conditions. Stretch marks are also expected to
appear, especially in women. It is not true that steroids cause
baldness, but it can speed up the process of its occurrence.

Internal changes are also expected. With high dosages of
anabolic steroids, both men and women may experience a change in
behavior. Usually, it is associated with an increase in
aggression and rage behavior. Some athletes consider this
advantageous because they need the rage to optimize their
performance. However, it is also not uncommon to feel severe
depression. This usually results in huge weight gains and self
confidence falters. In addition, feminization occurs in males.
With the huge amounts of testosterone, some may be converted to
estrogen which is the female sex hormone.

This is the side effect that most body builders do not want to
experience. In females, masculinization occurs. This results in
a more masculine behavior and nature. This may enhance growth of
body hairs. However, symptoms vary from person to person. Some
men develop breasts because of the high intake of these anabolic
steroids. They can only be removed by plastic surgery. This
condition is called Gynecomastia. The risk of cardiovascular
diseases is also increased. Decreased growth, kidney problems,
severe headaches, liver problems, and immune system deficiencies
are also side effects of taking anabolic steroids. So what do
you think? Still up for it?
