HSBC Provides Relief for China Earthquake Victims

The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) has provided relief for earthquake victims in China. HSBC has always been active in making sure that the communities it serves benefit from the success the bank enjoys. HSBC’s long history is full of philanthropic activities that have made HSBC a brand to easily associate with social responsibility.

In the recent earthquake that shook Sichuan, China, HSBC responded by donating a total of HKD 220,748,548.71 to the Hong Kong Red Cross for the purpose of disaster relief. The amount was generated through donations from the Hong Kong Bank Foundation as well as pledges from HSBC employees, customers, and other people who joined HSBC’s campaigns to raise funds for the victims of the earthquake.

The funds will be allocated according to the requests of HSBC to ensure that the donations will be in line with the banks’ corporate sustainability initiatives. Rebuilding schools and educational facilities are the top priorities for the bank, followed by the rehabilitation of health facilities and housing communities in the affected areas.

HSBC’s commitment to philanthropy and the community shines especially during these trying times. The bank believes that beyond ensuring corporate sustainability, they engage the entire bank in philanthropic initiatives.
