German Player Upset Higher-Ranked Indonesian Player at the Denmark Open

Another sensational victory was brought about by German player Marc Zwiebler as he made another upset win over a higher ranked player in this week’s Denmark Open.
The German shuttler stunned tournament second seed Sony Dwi Kuncoro of Indonesia in three tight sets 21-10, 16-21, 21-15.

Zwiebler made a fine start as he clinched the first set easily at 21-10, building his confidence for the second set. However, the Indonesian found his rhythm in the second set to even the game and force a decider. When all was said and done, Zwiebler acquired the crucial points to edge out the much-experienced opponent 21-15 in the third set. The German capitalized on placing the badminton shuttlecock where his Indonesian opponent will have difficulty hitting.

Zwiebler revealed that he managed to pick up his speed in the third set plus the fact that he was able to anticipate his opponent’s shots.
Kuncoro has nothing but praises for Zwiebler’s performance, stating that there were a lot of difficult shots made which was the turning point of the exciting match. Despite the loss, the Indonesian is happy with his performance and looks forward to upcoming tournaments.

The victory over the Indonesian assured Zwiebler’s place in the final two of the tournament. It is an impressive feat for the German, who’s still making a tough comeback after a back injury in 2007 forced him to take things slow.
